In a recently published article in Ophthalmology, researchers from Australia and the UK found that by incorporating tablet-based visual field screening  on a weekly basis, the amount of visual field loss that would have been detected in 2.5 years with formal in-clinic testing was detected in 0.9 years with the addition of the tablet based app. 

Another multi-centre, cross sectional validation study carried out in Western Australia has validated the MRF test to screen for glaucoma and found that the test is rapid and provides acceptable measures of test standards compared with reference standards.

The MRF Apps are fully compliant with the stringent requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and is also registered by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

Sees immense potential for the use of MRF, particularly its use as part of future Pharmacological clinical trials for Glaucoma. Due to test-retest variability of visual field tests, it generally takes multiple clinical visits for least 3-5 years in order to accurately identify a difference in glaucoma progression rate between treatment group and control group.
